It all starts in Poland, the director Gosia Wdowik’s native country, in which abortion is now illegal. Despite widespread demonstrations, the female population has simply been denied a fundamental right. Though this might seem like an activist-related success story, She was a Friend of Someone Else is a story with too many beginnings, and too few endings – and a narrator on the brink of exhaustion. In this new work, Gosia Wdowik explores the link between burnout and militancy. Is it true that our rights will remain secure for ever? Do they risk disappearing the moment we no longer take an interest in them? Choreographies of a subtle nature take us on a journey into the life of a woman who, one day, decides to stay in bed instead of going out to demonstrate. Will she find the strength to return to her former struggles ?

Rencontre entre la metteuse en scène Gosia Wdowik et la chercheuse au CNRS Florence Rochefort associée au groupe « Sociétés, religions, laïcités » (GSRL EPHE/CNRS). Elle est spécialiste d’histoire des féminismes et poursuit des recherches sur le genre, les religions, laïcités et la sécularisation. Elle est l’autrice de Histoire mondiale des féminismes, PUF, Que sais-je ?, 2018, et, en collaboration avec Bibia Pavard et Michelle Zancarini-Fournel, de Ne nous libérez pas, on s’en charge. Une histoire des féminismes de 1789 à nos jours, Paris, La Découverte, 2020. Elle a dirigé notamment Le pouvoir du genre. Laïcités et religions 1905-2005, Toulouse, PUM, 2007, et codirigé Qu’est-ce que le genre ?, Paris, Petite Bibliothèque Payot, 2014 avec Laurie Laufer ; Normes religieuses et genre. Mutations, résistances et reconfigurations, Paris, Armand Colin, 2013, avec Maria Eleonora Sanna.
