MBOK’ELENGI

In the land of joy
In Lingala, “Mbok’Elengi” evokes a country where pleasure and the joy of living reigns supreme. This concept, adopted by the Congolese youth, has become a popular slogan on the streets of Kinshasa. With this ultra-dynamic piece, the choreographer Jolie Ngemi, who entranced Théâtre 95 audiences with NKISI in 2024, takes us on a journey into the heart of her native city. Onstage, five performers dressed “with panache” stir up the white-hot energy of the Sebene, an emblematic Congolese musical style. Ranging from positive impulses to ecstatic heights, dance becomes a sacred celebration for the telling, in equal measure, of adversity and injustice, hope and ecstasy. This explosive carpe diem is an invitation to spread our light far and wide!
