Vision of today’s Iran
The work of Azade Shahmiri, the gifted Iranian director and authoress, features in Europe’s most prestigious festivals. First performed in 2021 at the Wiener Festwochen in Austria, her latest piece takes us on a voyage in time. For her point of departure, she draws upon the rushes of an unfinished documentary filmed in a Tehran cafe by the film-maker Hamud Jafari. The powerful and fragmentary images are turned into material of a vivid nature, intertwined with the frank portrayals of the three performers. In a simple way, they recount life in Iran today, and unveil the strength of resistance that underpins everyday lives. They invite us to go on a journey of the imagination, offering us a glimpse into another possible world!
