Witch hunt

In this new piece, choreographers Eisa Jocson and Venuri Perera take us deep into the European history of witch hunts and its direct consequences in terms of the exploitation of women’s labour. The two artists, both of whom originate from countries in which the export of labour is commonplace, namely the Philippines and Sri Lanka. They make use of the representation of the broom as an extension of the body. This object is symbolic both of the image of women and domestic work. In Magic Maids, the performers, whose vision of art is that of an ally in the struggle for equality and freedom, bring to the stage healing rituals, capable of repairing the injustices of the world.
