fri 20 Mar – sat 21 Mar 2026
The voice of the body
For their first collaboration, the Palestinian choreographers Marah Haj Hussein and Nur Garabli blend their respective universes in a deeply feminist performance. Inspired by the howl or wail, a traditional modulation of the voice of a joyous kind, they look into the issue of what is handed down between grandmother, mother and daughter, within an occupied territory in which the female body is a place of heritage and resistance. Bringing together theatre, folk dance and improvisation, they interweave their voices with those of elderly Palestinian women, in an immersive sound and visual landscape. The hairs on their heads become thread, matter and anchorage point. The soles of their feet strike the ground in search of remembrance, freedom, might and reconnection with the earth. Lululululeesh is a cry, dance, and form of reconquest. This liberating performance allows us to unpick or return to our roots.
